Achieving a safer and successful pour when using a concrete pump on the job isn’t just happenstance; it requires determined collaboration from the entire team. In this session, you’ll learn how to prepare, what to expect and most important, how to identify potential hazards which can lead to an unfortunate, and most times avoidable, accident.
Specific topics include:
- Pre-pour planning – size and type of placing equipment, special needs
- Site preparation for placement and ready mixed access
- Communication – hand signals, spotter responsibilities
- Mix designs – ensuring a pumpable mix
- Hazards such as entrapped air, power lines and tipping
- What to expect from your concrete pumper

Eric received a university degree in mechanical engineering and is currently, the co-owner of Cancrete Equipment, a Putzmeister boom pump, line/shotcrete pump and mortar machine distributor with four locations across Canada. He has held a board position with the American Concrete Pumping Association (ACPA) since 2015 and is currently Secretary of the Association. As an ACPA Authorized Training Administrator (ATA), Eric is a frequent instructor for ACPA operator training seminars.
