The Future of Industrial Concrete Floor Slabs

Date & Time: Wednesday Feb 12, 2025 at 1:45 pm
Duration: 50 minutes
Location: OPCMIA Stage

Description

In the warehousing industry, including cold storage, the racking and material handling equipment have evolved and changed drastically but the not the good old concrete floor slab design and construction.

During this session, we will explain how concrete floors should be designed and built to better suit the new MHE and racking requirements, as well as the upmost importance of reducing carbon emission.

The concrete slabs of today and of the future should be thinner (using less concrete), jointless (without sawn joints) and using only armor joints (ideally with a sinusoidal top) for long lasting comfort of use without deterioration. The goal of jointless concrete slabs are to reduce carbon imprint and  maintenance while optimizing the use of MHE and the comfort and safety of operators.

Bernard Bouhon has over 33 years’ international experience in industrial concrete floor slabs, mainly in jointless steel fiber reinforced concrete floors using only armor joints and no saw cut joints at all. It was a natural evolution that, after spending almost 30 years in concrete floors, I had the chance to represent our armor joint manufacturer from Belgium, HCJ. PSCS are now the exclusive distributor of their unique line of full depth armour joints in USA and Canada, as well as of the top quality type 1 steel fibres manufactured in Germany by Krampeharex, allowing us to offer full slab design.
