Description

Concrete Pump Operators in British Columbia can now have their skills and abilities recognized with a professional accreditation: Concrete Pump Operator Certificate of Competence delivered by the BC Construction Safety Alliance.

This certificate was built by industry and safety professionals to ensure holders of the certificate are operating to a standard of high competence – one of safety, environmental consideration, and value. As the first and only certification of its kind in North America, CCPO was developed to conform to the ISO 17024 standard, which contains principles and requirements for a body certifying persons against specific requirements. Importantly, the CCPO program was developed with subject matter expertise from representatives across Canada and the United States.

As of December 2021, CCPO is recognized and indeed a requirement mandated by BC’s health and safety regulator, WorkSafeBC. This session will provide an overview of the CCPO program development, the ISO 17024 principles which provided the framework for an objective measurement of competency, and the future vision for a nationally accepted program.
