Description

This session will present the current protective lining technology used for lining concrete tanks and reservoirs in water storage, wastewater treatment, sewer collection, food and beverage and other industries. We will also be discussing secondary containment linings for various industries and chemicals. This presentation will address the correct surface preparation, application procedures and lining product selection to maximize life cycle expectancy. The first half of the presentation will address engineering considerations. The second half will be short presentations on products by technical representatives from protective coating manufacturers Carboline, PPG, Sherwin Williams and Tnemec.

Murray Heywood has been in the protective coating and lining industry for 42+ years. His experience includes applicator, inspector, protective coating specialist, engineering consultant and coating inspector instructor. Murray was also the Market Manager of Sherwin Williams Water & Wastewater Division for North America until 2021 when he joined Corrosion Probe Inc as a Principal Consultant. Mr. Heywood has a vast knowledge of concrete structures and tanks, concrete failure mechanisms and testing protocols. Mr. Heywood is recognized as a leading protective coating SME in North America on steel and concrete, with several articles published in industry and engineering publications.

David Walker is presently the Principal Coating Consultant for Tnemec Company of Kansas City, MO for the Province of Ontario. David has over 35 years experience in protective coatings and has been a AMPP Certified Coating Inspector for over 29 years. David has served in prior years for AWWA Coating Standard groups including authoring coating standards and serving as Coating Standard Chair for the AWWA Steel Water Pipe Manufacturer’s Technical Advisory Committee and the AWWA Steel Pipe Technical Committee. David has published multiple research and position papers and has authored various technical articles for NACE and industry publications.

Eric Zimmerman the National Business Development Manager – Water & Wastewater for Carboline. Eric graduated from Eastern Washington University with majors in Marketing and Management. He spent 25 years with The Sherwin-Williams Company, 20 of those dedicated to the protective coatings market. Eric then worked for two years as New Water Tower Construction Consultant for Maguire focusing on direct negotiated tank sales. Eric has achieved NACE/AMPP Level III Coatings Inspector and SSPC/AMPP Level II Concrete Coatings Inspector. He is an active member and sits on multiple industry committees.

Kevin has 33 years’ experience in the paints and protective coatings industry, the last 3 years with PPG. Previously, Morris has served as a Protective & Marine coatings Sales Representative, Engineering Specifications and Corrosion Specialist, Regional Market Segment Director, Global Market Segment Director, Director of Strategic Segments and Business Development. Mr. Morris is an AMPP Senior Coatings Inspector, Certified Concrete Coatings Inspector and previously an instructor for the Concrete Coatings Inspector program. He is a member of the AWWA D102 committee for Coatings for Welded Steel Water Tanks. He has written and published numerous papers and articles for industry organizations.
