Go Deep: Innovative Sustainable Concrete Rehabilitation System Lasting Decades
Date & Time: Thursday Feb 16, 2023 at 2:15 pm
Duration: 50 minutes
Location: Hall 2
Registration: $0
Description
Concrete protection systems are generally surface level and subject to degradation from weather, abrasion, and destructive chemicals. In many cases, a protection system may never have been part of the equation leaving the concrete susceptible to attack and deterioration. In this session, we introduce a sodium silicate protection and rehabilitation system—oXoCrete, supplied by OXO H2O SOLUTIONS INC. This system uses proprietary equipment to treat concrete “deep” within the concrete matrix—up to 25 cm in most cases and laterally up to 50 cm. An overview of the benefits and applications of this system and Ontario based case studies will be presented.

Daniel Aleksov, P.Eng., BSS, Principal, Leading Edge Building Engineers Inc.
Daniel Aleksov, P.Eng., BSS is a principal and co-founder of Leading Edge Building Engineers and a senior structural engineer specialized in the restoration and renewal of existing buildings. He has spent over a decade assisting building owners and property managers solve water penetration and building component failures with durable and cost-effective solutions. He is also involved with the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) and volunteers for the concrete repair and waterproofing committees. He is committed to lifelong learning and creating a positive impact to the engineering and construction industries.

Brian Andrew Fleck Ph.D., P.Eng., ICD.D
Brian’s career is defined by his drive to decisively take on exciting challenges and embrace change. Brian has travelled extensively and developed a personal international network. He’s an accomplished author of dozens of research articles such as “Bubble formation regimes during gas injection into a liquid cross flow in a conduit”, “Drag Reduction Using Polysaccharides in a Taylor–Couette Flow”. These are but a a sample of his many research articles. Presently, Brian Fleck is completing research in the dynamics of concrete rehabilitation and protection by increasing compressive strength at the capillary level deep in the concrete substrate. Brian is Co-Chair, Building Owners Management Association; Advisor, Pura-Air Inc; Academic Faculty Director, AASUA—among others leadership roles.
