This presentation introduces common concrete durability issues and demonstrates field techniques, including non-destructive testing and coring. Attendees will be introduced to various tools used in both the field and laboratory to diagnose concrete durability issues and develop practical repair recommendations. The session highlights how these tools work together to evaluate condition and support long-lasting, durable structures.

Dr. Ted Moffatt, Senior Materials Engineer – Concrete Technology, Harborside Engineering Group
Dr. Ted Moffatt is a Senior Concrete Materials Engineer with Harbourside Engineering Group. He works on projects involving concrete forensic investigations, non-destructive testing, mix design optimization, troubleshooting, litigation support, and low-carbon concrete consulting. Ted is an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Brunswick and an Adjunct Scholar at Dalhousie University, where he helps bridge research and practice. He is the current President of the ACI Atlantic Chapter and a voting member on the CSA A3000 and CSA A23.1/2 committees, with a focus on advancing concrete performance and durability across Canada.
